Abilify
/Abilify (aripiprazole) is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and as an adjunctive treatment for major depressive disorder. It is available in oral tablet and injectable forms and is available by prescription only. Patients are advised to be aware that Abilify may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children, adolescents, and young adults. It should not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to aripiprazole or any of its components.
Interactions
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors: May increase aripiprazole plasma concentrations, potentially leading to increased side effects. Management includes reducing the dose of aripiprazole.
Strong CYP3A4 inducers: May decrease aripiprazole plasma concentrations, potentially reducing its efficacy. Management includes increasing the dose of aripiprazole.
Other central nervous system (CNS) depressants: Concurrent use may enhance the sedative effects of aripiprazole. Patients are advised to monitor for increased sedation.
History of seizures: Patients with a history of seizures may have an increased risk of seizure activity when taking aripiprazole. Monitoring for seizure activity is recommended.
