What is Femara
Femara is a medication that contains the active ingredient letrozole. It is primarily used in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Letrozole works by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which reduces estrogen production in the body, thereby slowing the growth of certain types of breast tumors that require estrogen to grow. There are no direct analogues of letrozole that are identical in mechanism, but other aromatase inhibitors, such as anastrozole and exemestane, are used for similar indications. Femara is typically prescribed after surgery or radiation therapy to help prevent cancer recurrence.
