Zithromax
/Zithromax is an antibiotic belonging to the macrolide class, used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory infections, skin infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. It is available as an oral tablet and is a prescription medication. Patients are advised to complete the full course of therapy as prescribed, even if symptoms improve, to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance. Caution is advised for patients with a history of liver disease, as Zithromax may cause liver problems.
Interactions
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium: May reduce the absorption of azithromycin. It is advised to separate the dosing of azithromycin and antacids by at least 2 hours.
Warfarin: Azithromycin may enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding. Monitoring of INR is recommended during co-administration.
Digoxin: Azithromycin may increase the serum concentration of digoxin, potentially leading to toxicity. Monitoring of digoxin levels is advised.
Hepatic impairment: Patients with hepatic impairment may experience increased exposure to azithromycin. Caution is advised in this population, and monitoring for adverse effects is recommended.
