Altace
/Altace is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in certain patients. It is available as an oral tablet and is a prescription medication. Patients are advised that Altace may cause low blood pressure, especially after the first dose, and should not be used in individuals with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor treatment.
Mechanism of Action
Altace, which contains the active ingredient ramipril, works by relaxing blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood. This helps lower blood pressure and can reduce the risk of heart problems.
Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It exerts its pharmacological effect by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. By reducing the levels of angiotensin II, ramipril decreases vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to vasodilation, reduced blood volume, and ultimately lower blood pressure. This mechanism contributes to its therapeutic effects in managing hypertension and heart failure.
